MAEID [Büro für Architektur und transmediale Kunst] is a research-based design practice investigating how ecology, technology, architecture, and media shape design practice today.

Founded in 2015 by architects and designers Daniela Mitterberger and Tiziano Derme, MAEID works across disciplinary boundaries to explore emerging relationships between natural and built environments. The studio approaches architecture as an interconnected system that can unfold across different media, scales, and forms of knowledge. Working between Innsbruck (AT) and Zurich (CH), MAEID develops architectural projects, large-scale installations, robotic systems, and interactive environments. Its work brings together spatial design, computation, audio, visual media, biology, and engineering to construct narratives that evolve through time and process. Rather than treating these fields as separate layers, the practice uses their interaction to produce spatial conditions that are performative, responsive, and continuously changing. Central to MAEID’s work is a strong commitment to site specificity and hyperlocality. Each intervention emerges from the ecological, material, climatic, cultural, and spatial conditions of a place, allowing local processes and constraints to become active design parameters. This results in singular projects that cannot be separated from the environments in which they are situated.

MAEID operates between self-initiated research, commissioned work, and collaborations with scientists, engineers, artists, and cultural institutions. Through this exchange, the studio translates interdisciplinary research into physical and experiential environments, questioning established distinctions between nature and technology, living and non-living systems, and architecture and media.

Daniela Mitterberger is an architect and researcher with a strong interest in new media, the relationship between Human/Body within Digital Fabrication and Emerging Technologies. Currently, she is a Ph.D. researcher and A&T Ph.D. Fellow at the Chair of Architecture and Digital Fabrication (Prof. Fabio Gramazio, Prof. Matthias Kohler) focusing on intuition in digital design and robotic fabrication. Previously she was a lecturer at several international graduate and postgraduate programs, amongst others at the University of Melbourne (MSD), the Leopold-Franzens University Innsbruck and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Her work has been recognized with several awards and has been widely exhibited at various galleries, institutions, and events including Ars Electronica Linz, Melbourne Triennial, Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and Kunsthaus Graz. Daniela is the Co-founder and Director of «MAEID - Büro für Architektur und transmediale Kunst ». 

Tiziano is an Architect, researcher and media Artist interested into the relationship between different media, materials and performativity. Currently Tiziano is assistant Professor and researcher at University of Innsbruck focusing on Autonomous and Robotic Interaction and fellow as emergent media Artist for the EMAP creative Europe program 2019. Previously he was teaching at several international graduate and postgraduate programs, amongst others at University of Melbourne, University of Tokyo. His work has been recognized with several grants and has been exhibited at various events, Institutions and galleries including Ars Electronica Linz, National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Singapore Art Biennale. Tiziano is the Co-Founder and Director of «MAEID – Büro für Architektur und transmediale Kunst»
